Geelong Vets Cycling

With many riders away at the state time trial championships at Avenel 23, riders raced over 51km in four scratch races at Paraparap on Sunday August 16th.
The race took riders out and back both Forest and Nobles roads finishing in Larcombes road after a lap of the Hendy Main road circuit. The races began in cold but sunny conditions with a strengthening north westerly wind. A and B grades began together as there were only three A grade riders. This meant a tough and fast ride for B grade. C grade lost only one rider for a sprint finish. D grade was blown apart as the wind strengthened with only two riders contesting for the win.

Some great results over the weekend. Xavier Coppock winning his age group in Ironman Melbourne with a time of 8:57, 20th fastest male!. Tim Tingiri finished with a time of 11:58. Awesome job guys.
Lance Rogers finish 6th in the Warnambool open in a tight sprint for second after one of the limit riders got away off the front.
Also Paul Ogilvie who is a new member of our club this year had a bad crash in the Otway Odyssey and as in the Alfred hospital recovering, good luck with the recovery Paul.

To help with those preparing for Maryborough, GSCC will be running a Time Trial this Sunday.
Results will be age adjusted and a 2:00 minute reduction given to those on road bikes (no aero bars etc) to encourage all members to have a go at the "race of truth".
The course is 25km out and back forrest road.
Race start is 9:00am, please enter with Robbo as normal and let him know your age as well please. We'll be using Mylaps electronic timing so those with transponders please fit them.

The number were down a little last night but with two highly competitive grades still racing.
In A grade Paul had got away from the bunch quite early but was caught then Tony got a very good break through the second half of the race only to be caught on the last lap.
A Grade: 1st Paul Beretta, 2nd Carl Leahy, 3rd Tony French
In B grade everyone had a good go in trying to establish a break away lead especially with the strong westerly cross winds blowing. Ian put in some very good solid efforts to make the bunch chase at maximum pace. Stuart got the timely gap on the back straight to hold on for a good win.
B Grade: 1st Stuart Smith, 2nd Kane Airey. 3rd Ian Amsden.
Well done to all and thanks to Dave Robinson for running tonight.
Next Thursday in the last crit race with dinner afterwards at the Belmont Hotel. Hope to see you there.

We have two more Thursday night crit races to go with Thursday 26th being the last. Afterwards dinner and drinks at the Belmont Hotel to chat about another great summer of crit racing. We have access to the function room to sit down at as the bar is usually quite full. Let us know if you are coming to confirm numbers. The bar meals are great and some drinks will be paid for!
This Sunday is the Warnambool Open, get you entries into the VVCC.
We are holding a time trial on Sunday 29th to lead into the easter weekend races at Maryborough. There will be the usual time trial bikes and a time advantage to normal road bikes.(no time trial bars). Full timing systems to be used.
