LINES GETS QUICK TIME

Mount Gambier local Steven Lines driving the Halls Haulage W3 sprintcar took out quick time for round 3 of the SRA Eureka Garages & Sheds being held at Warrnambool’s Sun Gold Stadium.

Drawing mid pack Lines put in 2 faultless laps to record quick time which stood for the remainder of the qualifying session.

Young up & coming driver James Hennessy piloting the #21 Victorian sprintcar put in a fantastic lap to secure 2^nd quick. Asked to comment on the time Hennessy said “I’m starting to get good time in the seat which helps heaps. 2nd quick sets us up for the night provided I can get some good results in the heats. I’ll take this run we are having as it could all turn to you know what very quickly.

3^rd quick time for the session went to Taylor Milling in the W25 sprintcar followed by Victorians Charles Hunter and Brett Milburn.

For Hunter driving the V73 sprintcar this was a fantastic result for the low budget racer and definitely helps him in his quest to make the A-Main.

Some interesting points to come out of the qualifying were Australian #1 James McFadden qualifying in 14^th spot, South Aussie hot shot Trevor Green S4 further back in 27^th spot and Californian Kyle Hirst driving the PRP Engineering #10 back 3 places in 30^th position.

Round 1 winner Jeremy Cross driving the N39 sprintcar qualified in 19^th spot with Cunningham 1 spot back in 20^th but 10 spots ahead of his US team mate.

Kristy Ellis put in a great lap to qualify in 17^th.

With 10 heat races to be run on the famous Premier speedway bowl you can expect plenty of thrills and spills as drivers try to qualify directly into the A-Main.

The Management, Board and Members of Premier Speedway, Warrnambool are extremely saddened by the passing of one of our greatest supporters - Mr Roy Slater. Roy was so much more than an enthusiastic race fan and Club member. Through his business R.A Slater Engineering Roy along with his wife Kaye, their family and staff have been long time Sponsors of Premier Speedway. Couple that with Roy's devotion to introducing new 'fans' to our sport, throwing open the doors of the Corporate Box he and Neville Dance share, enlightening many to their unique and entertaining pre-race rituals! Over the years the flow of dignatries that have enjoyed that same hospitality include politicians, car owners, first time race fans and drivers from both here and abroad. Although we now mourn the passing of Roy Slater, one of his final instructions eminated around the continuation of the support and traditions that have become synonymous with Roy and Kaye. At this sad time we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Kaye, the Slater Family, employees and friends on Roy's passing. In closing Roy Slater may have lost this battle, but we think he won the overall battle as he leaves this life most commonly referred to as 'One of Natures Gentlemen'. Rest In Peace Roy.

2016 Geelong Harley Davidson Easter Sprinter Trail Set To Go To The Wire The 2016 Geelong Harley Davidson Easter Sprinter Trail looks set to go down to the wire tonight, with Steven Lines set to enter Night 3 defending a slender 15 point lead over his nearest rivals when the cars hit the track at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool as presented by Chemblast. Having claimed back to back victories at both Avalon Raceway on Good Friday and then again last night at Borderline Speedway, Mt. Gambier, Lines has amassed a perfect score of 440 points for his two nights work. Snapping at his heals, and looking to prevent Lines collecting a $10,000.00 cash bonus if he can Sweep the weekend with another victory tonight, is the Red Hot Jamie Veal who has managed two podium finishes in the opening two nights of competition to sit second with 425 points. Not without his chances based on recent form is Sydney's Ian Loudoun who like Lines and Veal is a Grand Annual Sprinter Classic Champion. Loudoun, who will again campaign David Dickson's Essendon Ford backed V3 shares equal third in the points battle with James McFadden who like the trio above, will be hungry to secure a win tonight and give himself every chance of riding away on the magnificent Geelong Harley Davidson Street 500. Both drivers sit just 30 points adrift of Lines. Defending Easter Trail Champion, Grant Anderson has quietly been going about his Title defence and is also not without his chances should he produce a strong result tonight. With nearly 50 cars expected to sign in this afternoon, the action is sure to be red hot. All ticket holders are reminded about and invited to the Open Pit Party between 3 and 4.00pm, with the public gates opening from 3.00pm as well. A Massive Fireworks Display along with the Super Rod Cup will also feature as a part of the program. Night One of the Geelong Harley Davidson Easter Sprintcar Trail produced some great racing with Steven Lines claiming the first of three $5000.00 pay days on offer! Jamie Veal finished second with Ian Loudoun continuing his return to form of late with a very strong third place finish. A shout out to the unlucky James McFadden who was dominant all night long only to make contact with another car in the shadows of the races climax - this resulted in James finishing sixth. So onto night two tonight at Borderline Speedway, Mt Gambier with the likes of Matt Egel and Jordyn Brazier expected to join the already tough entry list! If you can't make it tonight, be sure to cancel everything else and be at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool on Easter Sunday night (tomorrow) for the chance to see who will claim the magnificent Harley Davidson Street 500 as the 2016 Easter Sprintcar Trail Champion! Jamie Veal’s domination of the 2015-16 Premier Speedway season continued tonight when he again proved the cream of the crop in a star-studded field claiming Round 2 of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Chase, while Brett Milburn all but sealed the deal as far as securing his maiden Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series Championship was concerned. Veal was made to fight all the way to the finish in the 30 lap final that was punctuated by a number of tallow flag situations, including a couple within six laps of the race being completed. Domain Ramsay Wins Victorian Speedway Title and Harry Ross Claims the Pikey! Domain Ramsay’s recent run of stellar form in the Speedcar division continued at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool on Saturday night when the popular driver claimed the Victorian Speedcar Championship while Harry Ross was the toast of the Junior Sedan field when he claimed a hard fought victory in the prestigious Neville Pike Cup. However there was to be no-denying Ramsay, capping a solid night at the wheel of the Indy Race Parts V71 entry when he claimed victory in the 30-lap feature. Brayden Willimington was another to impress as he charged to second ahead of Paul Farrell, who like Willimington came on strong in the second half of the feature race event. Ramsay dominated the early part of the feature event before he was challenged strongly by Anthony Chaffey aboard the immaculate V6 entry. It appeared as if Chaffey and Willmington may have had Ramsay’s measure before contact with between Ramsay and Chaffey saw the later spin to a halt on the entry to turn two. At the re-start it was Willmington who was handed the job of running Ramsay down, while Paul Farrell who originally started from position 12 on the grid was beginning to cut through the field. As the laps ran down there was to be no denying Ramsay however as he proved to be a very worthy Victorian Champion taking the win from Willmington and Farrell. Fourth home was Stewart Grant-Campbell with the South Australia 71 entry of Ben Hall finishing fifth. Nick Parker followed them home in sixth after he had started from position 15 on the grid while seventh place went the way of Chaffey. The top Matt Papa, Stuart Ferguson and Justin McMinn then rounded ten out. Earlier in the night some very entertaining heat racing produced wins to Stewart Grant-Campbell, Michael Harders, Paul Murphy and Domain Ramsay. The Junior Sedan Neville Pike Cup was a fantastic advertisement for the skill and tenacity of the junior drivers. The Mortlake 19 entry of Harry Ross was the dominant driver in the 20 lap A-Main as he claimed a memorable win ahead of Queensland’s Maddi McGee and Angus Hollis who again impressed at the wheel of his Portland 16 entry. The top three who were literally nose to tail for the final six or seven circulations of Sungold Stadium were followed home by Donald Young (AX43), Jake Warren (M84), Colby Lunt (AX76), Ben Micallef (W55), Luke Dingley (AX48), Brady Dignan (W8) with Carly Walsh bringing the M4 entry home with a top ten finish. Earlier the Junior B Grade final was won by Darcy Giblin who has been impressive on both of his visits to Premier Speedway during the 2015-16 season, while second went to Katelyn Worthy who finished just ahead of third placed Jackson Van Ginneken. In the Wingless Sprint division Simpson’s Luke Weel prepared for next weekend’s Australian Championship in fine style when he took out the 20-lap feature event. Weel was again too strong for second placed Andy Hibbert while rounding out the podium finishers was Sam Wren. They were followed by Glenn Watts who stormed from position 14 on the grid to run fourth just ahead of Alex Thomson aboard the V77 entry. The next meeting at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool will be held on Sunday March 13, 2016 and will feature the penultimate round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series, which also doubles as Night Two of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Chase. Earlier the Junior B Grade final was won by Darcy Giblin who has been impressive on both of his visits to Premier Speedway during the 2015-16 season, while second went to Katelyn Worthy who finished just ahead of third placed Jackson Van Ginneken. In the Wingless Sprint division Simpson’s Luke Weel prepared for next weekend’s Australian Championship in fine style when he took out the 20-lap feature event. Weel was again too strong for second placed Andy Hibbert while rounding out the podium finishers was Sam Wren. They were followed by Glenn Watts who stormed from position 14 on the grid to run fourth just ahead of Alex Thomson aboard the V77 entry. The next meeting at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool will be held on Sunday March 13, 2016 and will feature the penultimate round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series, which also doubles as Night Two of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Chase. SPEEDCAR VIC TITLE UP FOR GRABS AS EARLY SEASON VICTORS RETURN TO SUNGOLD STADIUM This Saturday night at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool the Victorian Speedcar Championship will go on the line, in what is the Speedcars first visit to Premier Speedway since the 74th running of the Australian Championship exactly 12 months ago. The entry list is dominated naturally by Victorians, while from an interstate perspective current Queensland Champion Michael Harders will make the trek south while Brayden Willmington, fresh of an A-Main appearance at the recently contested Australian Championship in Sydney will again be at the wheel of the N89 entry. Only a couple of weeks ago the ultra tough Speedcar Super Series rolled into Geelong Avalon Raceway and two of Saturday night’s entrants certainly stood tall with Domain Ramsay (2nd) and Anthony Chaffey (3rd) finishing on the podium. Chaffey currently sits in second place overall in the Speedcar Super Series and will definitely be one to watch on Saturday night. Another driver to show his credentials at Avalon was Ashley Booker who was fourth on the night and will be looking to continue that form around the high banks of Sungold Stadium. The Speedcar fraternity will be out in force to acknowledge one of their own on Saturday night, with Andy Pearce set to be at the wheel of the V18 machine, most recently campaigned by Braeden “Skip” Palmer who was tragically killed in a road accident recently. Aside from the Speedcars, the prestigious Neville Pike Cup for Junior Sedans will feature on the program with 36 drivers nominating across both A and B Grade. On the A Grade side of the draw both Harry Ross in the M19 registered car and Angus Hollis in the P16 entry managed to feature on the podium in the Yeoman Williams Memorial as held at Premier Speedway back on December 19. South Aussie Brad Gartner is always fast while Jake Warren (M84), Ben Micallef (W55), Noah Van Ginneken (W22) and Queensland visitor Maddi McGee are all expected to feature prominently. Last time the Juniors hit Premier Speedway Blake Walsh (M2) was impressive in the B Grade division, taking the win from Darcy Giblin (L29) and Jack Tanner (W21) with all three drivers again nominated for action this weekend. The Neville Pike Cup celebrates not only the life of one of Premier Speedway’s Life Members but also acknowledges the contribution “Pikey” made to Junior Sedan racing not only in South West Victoria but also right around Victoria and Australia in general. If that’s not enough action for you another very strong field of Wingless Sprints will also be in action with Laang’s David Cook looking for a repeat of his early season form that saw him capture a feature race win at Sungold Stadium back on November 7. On that occasion Cook was joined on the program by Glenn Watts who was super impressive in second while third place fell the way of popular Wingless racer Luke Weel. In what has proven to be an ominous sign defending Victorian Champion James Wren was fourth back in November, but has since been able to defend his Victorian Championship so he too will be another to watch on Saturday night. A very healthy entry list consisting of 38 cars will do battle in the Wingless Sprints. The on-track action is set to kick off with a round of Wingless Sprint Heats from 5.00pm with the gates opening at 4.00pm. Veal Heads Up An All South West Victorian Podium Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic Champion Jamie Veal continued his golden run at Premier Speedway this evening when he claimed victory in the Preliminary Feature event to cap off proceedings for night two of the 2016 Lucas Oil Australian Sprintcar Championship. Veal was joined on the winners podium by fellow Warrnambool native Darren Mollenoyux while Simpson's John Vogels was third. With Chace Karpenko producing a career best qualifying performance throughout his two qualifying night heat races, the driver of the NT21 started from pole position for the 30 lap feature event. Alongside Karpenko was the ACT18 of 2014 Knoxville Raceway Track Champion Ian Madsen and it was Madsen who stole the march in his rivals as he led the field after the opening lap as Veal began to move forward from his position four starting position. On lap two, the S22 of Chad Ely was the first retirement after his front wing became dislodged. With Madsen trying to run and hide the large crowd on hand were treated to multiple slide jobs as both Madsen and Veal traded blows and positions at the front of the field. On lap 13 the yellow lights blinked on as Robbie Farr ground to a halt in the NQ7 entry after he too enjoyed a near faultless qualifying run which saw the 2004 Aussie Champ begin the race from position three. The next major delay in proceedings came when the power plant on the Q36 entry of Luke Oldfield expired, depositing a large amount of oil on the racing surface, which resulted in a lengthy red light stoppage. At the resumption it was Madsen who again led the way while Veal continued to work the high side of the track as the gap closed. Then on lap 25 Veal managed to slide Madsen for the lead on the entry to turn one before Madsen spun the ACT18 on entry to turn three resulting in the demise of not only the one time race leader but also Chace Karpenko who has strode his way into podium contention, while Steven Lines dynamic run from position nine also was impeded slightly as he flipped the W3 machine resulting in severe top wing damage. At the resumption it was all Veal as the five laps passed by in the blink of an eye with the dominant V35 entry taking the win ahead of Darren Mollenoyux and the ever consistent John Vogels who again impressed having progressed to third from an eighth place starting position. Rounding out the official top five were Jason Kendrick who also showed immense car speed as he sped from position 12 on the grid. Tim Van Ginneken (V36), Dion Bellman (V40), Daniel Pestka (V88), Ian Loudoun (V3) and Max Dumesny (V5) who rounded out the top ten followed them. They were followed by Luke Walker (V67), Darren Jensen (Q75), Lines (W3) and Keke Falland (S78). The DNF’s consisted of Ian Madsen (ACT18), Chace Karpenko (NT21), Luke Oldfield (Q36), Matt Smith (N11), Robbie Farr (NQ7) and Chad Ely (S22). Earlier in the program the B-Main was won by Luke Oldfield (Q36) ahead of Chad Ely (S22), Max Dumesny (V5) and Keke Falland (S78), while the last chance C-Main saw Jamie Bricknell (T55) and Dennis Jones (V17) tag onto the back of the B-Main. The heat races, of which there were eight in total were won by Steven Lines, John Vogels, Darren Jensen, Dion Bellman, Tim Van Ginneken, Luke Walker, Daniel Pestka and James Thompson. Anderson Tops The Charts As Tatnell Takes Night One Of Aussie Title Brooke Tatnell’s chances of claiming a sixth Australian Championship took a giant leap forward on Friday night at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool when he claimed victory after a race long battle with 2003 Champion Kerry Madsen and early pace-setter Grant Anderson. On a race track that provided many passing options the race craft of both Tatnell and Madsen was on show for all to see, while New South Welshman Sam Walsh also provided many highlights with his charge up the pecking order from position eight until a late race caution all but sealed his fate. Anderson was the early pace setter, managing to stay abreast of pole sitter Luke Dillon in the early laps, until Tatnell and Madsen along with defending Aussie Champ David Murcott began to stamp their authority on proceedings. It took Tatnell, who was battling illness, until lap 23 to get by Anderson for the lead as Madsen continued to pepper away at the new race leader. Anderson did all he could to try to maintain a podium finish before Murcott slipped by in the shadows of the finish line on lap 26. A late race caution bunched the field together with five to run but there was to be no denying Tatnell who claimed opening night honors from Kerry Madsen and David Murcott with Anderson hanging on for fourth just ahead of Sam Walsh. Rounding out the top ten were Nick Lacey 6th (started 11th), Daniel Harding 7th (started 3rd), Brad Keller 8th (started 7th), Shaun Bradford 9th (started 5th) and Matt Egel 10th (started 10th). The remaining finishers were Danny Reidy 11th (started 18th), Andrew Scheuerle 12th (started 19th), Tim Rankin 13th (started 17th) and Jamie Hennessy 14th (started 20th). Those classed as non-finishers were the ACT21 of Shaun Dobson, the S2 of Craig Venderstelt along with Luke Dillon, Bradley Maiolo, Garry Brazier and Max Johnston. Earlier in the program the B-Main was won by Tim Rankin, from Danny Reidy, Andrew Scheuerle and Jamie Hennessy, while the last chance C-Main saw Ryan Jones and Kristy Ellis tag onto the back of the B-Main. The heat races, of which there were eight in total were won by Bradley Keller, Sam Walsh, Luke Dillon, Tim Rankin, Brad Maiolo, Grant Anderson, Shaun Bradford and Nick Lacey. Murcott Claims Prelude Night In Action Packed Feature David Murcott’s defence of his Australian Championship Crown stepped up a gear tonight at Sungold Stadium when he prevailed over nearly 80 cars in what was an action packed night of racing. Split qualifying was again the order of the day with such a large field of cars present with Murcott and Daniel Pestka both picking up $500 for being the fastest qualifiers in their respective groups. The two non-qualifiers events were the next to be contested with Ian Madsen, Max Johnson, Chad Ely and Nick Lacey from Flight One and Brooke Tatnell, Daniel Harding, Dion Bellman and Ben Atkinson all earning transfers to the back of the Semi-Final style B-Mains later in the evening. With a six car inversion on a slick race track that led to a heavy cushion, the four ten car heats were also going to be action packed with the top two in each heat locking into the “King of the Pool” top eight shoot-out, while cars finishing third and fourth were also set to transfer directly to the A-Main. The heat winners were Danny Dietrich (W56), James McFadden (NQ25), Brett Milburn (V68) and Jordyn Brazier (Q21), while they were joined in the “King of the Bool” by David Murcott from sixth, Kyle Hirst from sixth, Jye O’Keeffe from pole and Jamie Veal from fifth. The Annual Prelude to the Championship foot race was again hotly contested with Jamie Veal and Crew Man?? Carson Macedo claiming the brand new complete Front end assembly courtesy of Parr Motorsports. The King of the Bool was next on the agenda with Murcott eventually setting up a front row start alongside Kyle Hirst having triumphed over the field. The two B-Main style semi finals saw two cars transfer to the back of the A-Main with Darren Mollenoyux tasting success in the first of the two 15 lap events, while in the second semi final Robbie Farr and Steven Lines also managed to lock themselves into the 30 lap A-Main event. From that point forward it was all eyes on the $5,000.00 winners purse as a field of 20 cars greeted the starter. From the get go it was Murcott who was dominant, while the likes of Hirst, McFadden, Milburn, Veal and Madsen all peppered away, running what was a very brave and fast way around the high side of Premier Speedway. Having traded numerous slide jobs and at one point with a three way battle for second third and fourth ensuing as the field went by the flag stand it was Murcott who did enough to take the win, as all hell broke loose behind him! With Hirst claiming second, Madsen and McFadden made contact with Madsen spinning across the line and McFadden flipping his way by the starter! However both their efforts amounted to nothing with both drivers relegated back through the field as Line’s amazing charge from position 20 eventually rewarded with third place in what was an incredible drive from the pilot of the Halls Motorsport W3. Veal capped off another solid night with fourth while Darren Mollenoyux claimed fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Terry McCarl, Danny Dietrich, Randy Hannagan, Matt Egel and Jamie Maiolo. They were followed by Jye O’Keeffe, McFadden, Kerry Madsen and Jack Lee while the non-finishers were Brett Milburn, Andrew Scheuerle, Ryan Jones, Shaun Dobson, Jordyn Brazier and Robbie Farr. The next event at Premier Speedway is the 54th Lucas Oil Australian Sprintcar Championship which is set to kick off this Friday January 29 and continue to its conclusion on Sunday January 31, 2016. Veal Wins As Hirst and Hannagan Shine. Jamie Veal extended his red-hot form at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool tonight to claim night two honors in what was another action packed 30-lap feature event on night one of the 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. In a repeat of the Night One final the first the initial start of the A-Main saw a quartet of cars involved in a turn two pile up that somehow only claimed the Q41 of Mitchell Gee, despite the fact he was joined in the melee by the likes of Bryan Mann, David Murcott and Toby Bell-Bowen. When the 30-lap journey eventually got underway it would be Veal who would open up a commanding early race lead, despite the best efforts of a hard charging Jamie Maiolo and defending Classic Champion Kyle Hirst. On lap ten, Veal was brought back to the field when a spinning Bryan Mann saw the yellow lights blink on in an incident that saw Jason Kendrick making slight contact with the turn three wall as he tried to avoid the stranded Q16 of Mann. The result of the impact was a broken rear arm aboard the W11 entry, which would also ensure that the popular West Aussie would join Mann as a spectator for the remaining 20 laps. From there it was a case of normal transmission resumed as Veal tried to stamp his class on the field leading Maiolo and Hirst for lap after lap as Randy Hannagan, who initially shared the front row with Veal began to dial into the racy Sungold Stadium high banks. On lap 18 Hirst got by Maiolo and set after Veal, that task was made a lot easier when the yellow lights again came on this time for Chad Ely, who was left stranded in a rather precarious position on the exit of turn two, which resulted in a once clear path for Brendan Guerin becoming somewhat of a road block. The ensuing contact resulted in both cars being parked. From the drop of the green flag at the re-start it was all Veal in the SWI Engineering Maxim as he went on his merry way, eventually winning from an impressive Kyle Hirst aboard the W17 Milwaukee Tools entry and Randy Hannagan who had car owner Ray Scott with a grin from ear to ear as the Scotts Livestock USA55 completed the podium. Finishing fourth and collecting an army of admirers for his performance along the way was Jamie Maiolo, while South Australia 4 of American Kraig Kinser finished fifth in what was one of the drives of the night having transferred from the B-Main and starting position 19! Rounding out the top ten were Robbie Farr 6th from position six, Jason Sides 7th from position 10, Steven Lines 8th from 14th, David Murcott 9th having started 15 and Garry Brazier who was tenth after launching from position eight. They were followed by Daniel Harding (11th), Glen Sutherland (12th), Corey McCullagh (13th), Toby Bell-Bowen (14th) and Luke Walker (15th). McFadden Wins Night One As Ryan Jones Tops Points. James McFadden tamed the high banks of Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool to claim night one honors in what was an action packed 30 lap feature event on night one of the 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. The initial start of the A-Main saw Jordyn Brazier crash out in turn one after contact between he and Max Johnston, while Daryl Clayden was forced to the back of the field after needing to change a right rear tyre. When the 30-lap journey eventually got underway it was Ben Atkinson aboard the NT62 who set the early pace, with Ryan Jones in hot pursuit. John Vogels settled into his work nicely before the charge of McFadden started moving from fourth to third on lap four before moving into second on lap ten. From there it took McFadden who was wheeling the NQ25 around the thinnest of cushion on the high groove at Premier Speedway another five laps before he could reel in and pass Atkinson for the race lead, while Kerry Madsen and Brad Sweet were also making their respective charges with Madsen moving to second with a handful of laps left to run. At the drop of the checkers it would be McFadden who added the maximum A-Main points to his qualifying nights points haul, taking the win from Madsen who started in position eight, while Atkinson was brilliant all night long and was most deserving of his podium finish in third. Brad Sweet was another to lap up the track conditions as he moved from position ten at the drop of the green through to fourth with the night one high points man, Ryan Jones, eventually finishing fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Brooke Tatnell 6th (started 14), Terry McCarl 7th (9), Darren Mollenoyux 8th (17), Tim Rankin 9th (7), John Vogels 10th (3), Paul McMahan 11th (5), Grant Anderson 12th (19), Daniel Pestka 13th (4), Brad Keller 14th (20), Daryl Clayden 15th (13) with Jason Pryde being the last of the cars to finish in 16th having started from position 16. Lumbar Out – Allard In For Classic The 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic American driver roster is now up to 11 with the late inclusion of California’s Jonathan Allard who is set to act as Super Sub for crowd favorite Eddie Lumbar. Hailing from Chico, California, Allard has been in scintillating form in New Zealand all summer long, having secured seven A-Main victories from ten starts, including a second New Zealand Sprintcar Championship back on January 6 at Bay Park. In fact Allard’s form has been so strong he has only finished worse than second on one occasion! This rich run of form is on the back of another stout season in the ultra tough King of the West Series in California. Allard, a three time King of the West Series Champion, finished seventh in 2015 behind eventual winner Carson Macedo. To highlight the consistency of Allard over a long period of time, his feature race win at the Gary Patterson Race in Stockton, CA back on November 7th, ensured that Allard’s record of accumulating at least one King of the West Series win for every season since 2005 remained in tact. Qualifying Re-Vamp as McMahan Steps Up The 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic can add another American to its list of entrants Elk Grove, California’s Paul McMahan set to take up the prime seat in the Dyson Motorsports 99 entry. Most race fans will remember Tim Kaeding piloting the Sean Dyson owned and backed entry to victory during the 2014 Classic and subsequently raising the bar post race as far as victory celebrations go! With Sean Dyson have recently campaigned the car, all should be well and truly in readiness for McMahan to settle straight in for what is a hit run mission on not only the Classic but quite possible Avalon’s President’s Cup and Borderline Speedway Mt. Gambier’s Kings Challenge event. McMahan is coming off a World of Outlaws campaign in 2015 that yielded three feature race wins amongst 49 top ten results, 27 top five finishes and six quick time awards. These results netted the popular McMahan a seventh place finish in the World of Outlaws Championship. In other Classic related news, due to the large car count, 123 at this time, it has been revealed that each qualifying night will consist of two flights of time-trials. Sides, Perovich and Mann Highlight Last Minute Classic Entrants – Field at 122. American Jason Sides will once again contest the Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic after his nomination was amongst a host of drivers who entered right on the cusp of entries closing on Monday afternoon. Sides who claimed the Alan Pollard Memorial Trophy courtesy of this qualifying performance at the 2010 Classic has been a regular visitor to Premier Speedway in recent seasons, continuing his long association with Queensland based car owner Dave Horrell. In 2015 Sides again took on the ultra-tough World of Outlaws Series, at times essentially trekking up and down the American Interstates will little or no crew to assist in the day to day tasks of competing with the World’s Best. To say that he stood tall in the seat is an understatement with the ever-popular nearly 43 year-old from Bartlett, Tennessee record a solid 8th place in the World of Outlaws point’s standings. This included two quick time awards, 30 top ten results, 12 top five finishes and one feature race win which broke a drought of World of Outlaw success that dated back to 2012. The popular win came at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas, where he claimed victory in the Boot Hill Showdown. Forever the acid test of any American Sprintcar driver, the Knoxville Nationals provided Sides with a 7th place finish in the C-Main – and before you scoff at that result, take into account that also contesting the C-Main were the likes of Steve and Kraig Kinser Jac Haudenschild, Tim Kaeding and our own Brooke Tatnell! For his return to the Classic Jason Sides will be behind the wheel of the USA7s machine with support coming from Mainline Dynalog Dynamometers, East Coast Logistics, Vortex Express, Powerplus Race Fuels, Sprint Shack and King Race Products. Having contested the Classic A-Main in 2015, Sides will be looking to leave a strong imprint on the 2016 version of the event. Sixteen year-old Victorian Jordyn Charge will make his Classic debut aboard the beautifully turned out Western Nissan, Mr. Electrics, In-Charge Racing, Adam Brand and Reed Signs sponsored V60 entry. The young Victorian will be joined by Harley Bishop and Robin Dawkins in the field with Bishop set to be at the wheel of the immaculately presented Lucas Oil, Jaxxon Wraps, Matt Jones Motorcycles, Kerbrider Kart Centre and Sunbury Powder Coat V15 machine while Dawkins will re-establish himself in the pilots seat of the potent T29 Kart Magic, Tamar Cars, Maxwill Motors and Phil Davey Sheetmetal car. With 122 cars making the nomination deadline, the final touches are being put on the list of relevant qualifying nights with an announcement due in the very near future. In some more exciting news, Australia Day’s Prelude to the Championship has also attracted an amazing field of cars with 78 entries having been received. Two Weeks Until The Classic - Here's An Update! With it now only being two weeks until the 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic the nominations continue to roll in, as well as some other Classic announcements as the Month of Money is well and truly underway. There has been another run of entries for the Classic, with a couple more still to be confirmed ahead of Monday’s deadline. Joining the Classic field today was two of the 2014-15 World Series Sprintcars Contracted Drivers in Andrew Wright and Darren Jensen. For Wright he looks set to return to the Classic having campaigned his N78 Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, Osborn Transport, Eliminator Race Wings and U Beaut Signs entry predominately in Sydney so far this season. Jensen, like Wright has opted to contest a majority of his racing from his home base in Queensland and will be back behind the wheel of the familiar Q75 KRE Race Engines, Cometic, BHR, Thermal Edge, Valvoline, Bolt King and Par Electrical machine. Both Wright and Jensen will be looking to improve on their 2015 Classic campaigns, where Wright managed an 8th place finish in C-Main 2, while Jensen was in a similar position mustering an 11th place finish in C-Main 1. Victoria’s Tim Rankin and Chris Solomon will both step outside their usual rides to tackle the 2016 Classic. Rankin, as he has done for a majority of the 2015-16 season will be at the wheel of the Mal Davis, Glenora Racing backed ACT66 entry, while Solomon has been gifted an opportunity behind the wheel of Tony Bartlett’s S75 machine. With Rankin having finished 15th in B-Main 1 in 2015, he will be aiming a little higher as he prepares for Classic duty while Solomon aboard the PM Engines, Grizzly Dyno Shocks, Bartlett’s Auto Centre, Cool Chassis, Ultra Tune of Cambelltown backed entry will make his Classic debut. Hailing from Oak Flats NSW, Gary Rooke is another who will return to Classic competition having sat out the 2015 running of the event. For his trip south Rooke will enjoy the support of South Coast Towing, Signtism, Oak Flats Motorcycles and Wollongong Car Carriers. Best Presented Car and Crew: With thanks to R & M Security Services the Team as Judged the Winner of the Premier Speedway Maintenance Committee’s Best Presented Car and Crew will now receive a pretty cool $2,000.00 for their efforts. The Premier Speedway Club would like to thank R & M Security for this fantastic donation! Reserved Seating: Patrons are advised that the reserved seating in the Grandstand and Terrace areas are all but sold out, especially for night three of the Classic! This indicated that ticket sales for all three nights are very strong! We recommend booking your tickets on-line via www.premierspeedway.com.au prior to midnight on January 21, 2016 or be sure to get a ticket when the windows open on the Warrnambool side of the Complex from 9.00am on each of the three race days. Patrons are reminded that only single night tickets for that particular nights racing can be purchased on the day of the event. Pit passes will be available from the Pit Box from 9.00am on race day as well. Who Qualifies On Which Night? The seeding of the two nights of competition will take place after nominations close. This information will be conveyed to all entrants as soon as practical to be fair to all teams involved. Lucas Oil Live Site To Return: Having debuted for the first time during the 2015 Classic, the Lucas Oil ‘Live Site’ will again provide race fans with a place to take in some live music between gate opening and race time on the Saturday and Sunday of not only the Classic but also the Australian Championship the following weekend! The Lucas Oil Live Site, which will feature a different local artist each day, will be located behind the Grandstand in turn 3 and is free to all fans at the venue. The Classic Breakfast: The Classic Breakfast (Friday January 22, 2016) at the Flying Horse Bar and Brewery is filling up fast! A stout field of more than 70 cars has already nominated for this cut throat one heat format race night, with the popular foot race for the top 8 drivers and crews set to make a return! Molly, Walsh, Kendrick and Egel Among Latest Classic Entries Entries for the 2016 Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic have burst past the 100 car mark, with the likes of Darren Mollenoyux, Jason Kendrick and Matt Egel amongst the latest batch of entries. With the nomination deadline (for tow money packages) being Monday at 5.00pm, it is expected that more entries will still come forward. Mollenoyux, a native of Warrnambool, will be back at his home track as he attempts to improve on what was an impressive Classic showing in 2015. The former Eureka Garages and Sheds Series Champion, finished 15th in the A-Main last season and despite having endured his share of hard luck so far in season 2015-16, he is always one to be reckoned with whenever the lights go green at Sungold Stadium. Driving the immaculate Parr Motorsports backed V77 entry; Mollenoyux will enjoy the support of Warrnambool Crane Hire, Truline Machinery, MBO Financial Group, Cassign and Valvoline. Sydney’s Sammy Walsh is another to throw his hat into the ring for what is arguably the biggest week of racing in the history of the Premier Speedway Club. Walsh who visited Premier Speedway earlier in the season for somewhat of a shakedown at Warrnambool managed to finish 16th in the B-Main last year and he will no doubt be looking to take the Rocket Industries, Fleck Earthmoving, Aeroflow Performance Products N92 machine deeper into the Sunday Night A-Main in 2016. It is a number of years now since Jason Kendrick last made the trek across the Nullabor to contest the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. Having concentrated his efforts on AHG Series action in his native Western Australia Kendrick will return to the East Coast a far more experienced and calculating performer. As always the Kendrick Team come with a wealth of sponsors and supporters for their assault on the Classic – Title double-header including Hit 92.9, Melville Holden, AHG, Amcap, Kincrome, Rand, Castrol, PPG, Boilertronics, Pacific Finance, KTM Motorcycles, Schweppes Australia, Vespoli Constructions, Varley Transport, Earthex, Del Basso Smallgoods, Merger Contracting, Daimler Trucks, Champion, Ron Krikke Auto Centre, Team Livestock Cartage, Rockingham Milk and Dairy, Summerslegal, Bowra Signs, Dynamco and McCarthy Paint and Panel. Despite having considerably less corporate support, talented South Aussie Matt Egel is no less talented behind the wheel of a Sprintcar as he joins forces with Downing Brothers Racing and the Orange S97 entry. The 2015 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic yielded Egel an 11th place finish in B-Main 2, so he along with the likes of Walsh and Co. will be one of the drivers looking to garnish enough qualifying points to lock into the 24 car Sunday night A-Main field. The team will represent Mainline Dynalog Dynamometers, Moore Mechanical, Regency Screens, National Karate, Rapiti Earthworks and Kingston Sales & Service when they roll out for business on the weekend of January 22 to 24. A pair of somewhat inexperienced fellow South Aussie’s will, also join Egel, in the field, as both Brock Hallett and Jody Baldwin have put their names forward for their respective Classic debuts. Hallett a former Formula 500 and Speedcar pilot has made the transition to winged Sprintcar racing with the support of Woodgate Beach Tourist Park, Charlson Tipper Hire and Parahills Fresh Cut Butchers. Baldwin who cut his teeth in the Wingless Sprint division will contest his first Classic for his sponsors Neale & Nulty Transport, Mortlake Roadhouse, JR Productions and Media and SR Photos. Having seemingly endured a horror run of engine issues Victoria’s Rhiannon Burleigh is set to launch another assault on the Classic with the ever popular fan favorite set to again be behind the wheel of the MDR Engineering, Dawson’s Australia, Mancine Cosmetics, ALM, LAD Art & Design, Wallan Smash and Ridge Health Club V58 entry. The 44th Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic as supported by Oval Express Magazine, GJ Gardner Homes, KRE Race Engines and the Lady Bay Resort Warrnambool will be held at Premier Speedway on January 22, 23 & 24, 2016.
