The NBL has congratulated Terrance Ferguson and Jonah Bolden on their selection in today’s NBA Draft.

Oklahoma born Ferguson, who was taken by Oklahoma City Thunder with selection 21 in the NBA draft, played for the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL last season.

Melbourne born Bolden was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers with selection 36 in the NBA Draft and is the son of Bruce Bolden who enjoyed a 17-year career in the NBL.

Ferguson is only the third first round NBA draft pick that have previously played NBL after Luc Longley (7) in 1991 and Chris Anstey (18) in 1997.

“Today’s NBA draft is a great endorsement of the NBL and Australian basketball,” said the NBL Chief Executive Jeremy Loeliger.

“Rather than play US college basketball, Terrance Ferguson decided to spend a season in the NBL and that has paid off with his selection in today’s draft.

“It’s further proof that the NBL is a world class basketball competition that will continue to attract and produce elite players and is a genuine pathway to the NBA.

“We have a number of Australians playing in the NBA, strong national teams in the Boomers and Opals, record participation levels in the game and a thriving national league in the NBL.

“Australian basketball has never been in better shape and there’s never been a better time to be part of the NBL which will celebrate its 40th anniversary season when it kicks off in October.”
