Apolonia Vaivai Wins Fiji's First Medal Of The Games

Fiji’s Apolonia Vaivai lifts for a Commonwealth Games bronze in the women's 75kg event

Today Fiji’s Apolonia Vaivai competed in the 75kg category women’s weightlifting. She was successful in all 3 attempts in the snatch. Her first attempt was at 90kg, then in her second attempt this increased to 94kg and finally in her third lift of the snatch the weight increased by another 3kg, giving her a total in the snatch of 97kg, this left her in 3rd place half way through the competition. During the clean and jerk Apolonia was successful in her first lift at 112kg which kept her in 3rdplace. She increased the weight to 115kg which proved too tough today and her final 2 attempts were no lifts.  This gave Apolonia  a total of 209kg leaving her in 3rd place with a bronze medal – Fiji’s first medal of the Games.
