Club Marine 2015 Junior and Youth Championships entries now open: Entry is now open for the Club Marine 2015 Junior and Youth Championships which will take place at Mornington Yacht Club on the 11&12 April. Registration is also open for the Club Marine coaching clinic which will take place prior to the championships on the 7-9 April and will see sailors who participate train with the best YV & YA accredited coachesEnter the Club Marine 2015 Victorian Junior and Youth Championships by the 15th of March, and go into the draw to receive FREE entry into the Coaching Clinic. Find out more

International Paralympic Committee removes sailing from the 2020 Paralympic Games programme: The International Paralympic Committee has determined the sporting programme for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with Sailing and 7-a-side football having been removed from the programme. The decision was published over the weekend.more

Australia Day honours: Australia Day at the Festival of Sails in Geelong, an hour south west of Melbourne. Some wear funny hats, wave flags patriotically, paint their faces blue, red and white and enjoy the shoreside ambience. Others dress in matching battle gear and head out onto Corio Bay to await the race officerâ??s preparatory signal and start sequence.more

Is your club Exclusive or Inclusive? All Yachting Victoria member clubs have received the Inclusive Club Standard.  We are pleased that 12 member clubs have already adopted the standard; we look forward to working with those clubs and supporting them through this process for our sport to become more inclusive. Clubs who have not yet adopted the standard more information can be found here. To adopt the Inclusive Club Standard or with any questions please contact Sarah Ogilvie:inclusion@yachtingvictoria.com.au.

Tackers Fleet Carnival: If you have completed Tackers 2 or 3 you are invited to join in the Tackers Fleet Carnival, a great opportunity to get out on the water for some fun and games with other Tackers graduates.Yachting Victoria will also be hosting a morning tea for the parents of the Tackers students to discuss the ‘where to’ after Tackers.Sunday 8 March 9:30am – 4pm register here cost $30. Find out more

Courses

Powerboat Handling Courses: Completing your powerboat handling course is an excellent way to be involved in the on-water activity at your club.
You learn how to operate a powerboat using a variety of high and low speed manoeuvring and safe operations of the vessel. There are several Powerboat Handling Courses coming up, enrol in one here.

Safety Boat Operators Course: If you are interesting in developing your on-water skills to assist your club further or looking to complete your club coach qualifications this course will be perfect for you.
You must have already completed your powerboat handling certificate or equivalent to participate in this course. Course Cost $300 Find out more

Club Coach Course: We have three new Club Coach courses lined up for this March, running on the 11th, 18th and 25th from 6.30ppm to 9.30pm at the Boatshed. Enrol now and become Club Coach qualified.

Race Officer Training Courses: New dates have been set for the Club, State/National Judge and Umpire Courses. We are constantly updating the calendar with new courses so keep an eye on the Race Official calendar. More here

Women and Girls in Sailing

Port Phillip Women's Championship Series - the Almighty Bullet! In two weeks they'll be on the water, but last Friday’s launch of the 2015 Port Phillip Women's Challenge Series at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club was welcomed with champagne for many of the guests. Read more about the launch here. To read more about the series including viewing the dates please click here.

Sailability Victoria

Sailability Victoria President David Staley – Volunteer of the Year 2014 - Victorian Disability Sport & Recreation: The 2014 Victorian Disability Sport & Recreation Awards were at the Melbourne Town Hall in December. The event recognised the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of people with a disability, individuals, sporting teams and organisations across Victoria. Yachting Victoria congratulate David on his Award and are thankful for his ongoing volunteer work for Sailability Victoria.More

New Yachting Australia Online Shop Launch date Monday 2 March 2015: On Monday 2 March 2015, Yachting Australia, in partnership with DMC Sport, will be launching a new online shop for all of Clubs, Centres, members and the general public. The new online shop combines the three existing shop options (Yachting Australia Online Shop, Tackers Shop and Boat Books) into one single shop front, providing a ‘one stop shop’ experience for all our resources and merchandise. more

Around Sunday Island Race - Trailables: Port Albert Yacht Club hosted an exciting Around Sunday Island Race on Saturday 06 December.  This event was Heat 4 of the Victorian Trailable Yacht Travellers Series.  Unfortunately the weather was far from ideal with overcast drizzly skies and a strong easterly wind whipping in from Bass Strait.  The conditions deterred a number of smaller trailable yachts leaving a mixed fleet of 10 trailable yachts. Read more

2015 Australian International Cadet Team: The ICCA have announced the Australian International Cadet Team selected to represent Australia at the 2015 International Cadet World Championship in Riva, Lake Garda in Italy from the 31st July to the 7th August.more

2015 Victorian Opti Championships are drawing near: The 2015 Victorian Opti Championships are drawing near, being held over the weekend of March 7-9.more

Transgender people and sport: The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission has launched (on Saturday, 31 January) a groundbreaking guideline designed to promote the participation of transgender people in sport.more

Nathan Outteridge 2015 Moth World Championship runner-up: Olympic gold medallist in the 49er class and defending Moth world champion Nathan Outteridge has finished the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship in the runner-up position. New Zealander Peter Burling (NZL), London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, won the regatta, which was hosted by the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) in Victoria (6-16 January 2016).more
