Navarro, second at Valencia and confirmed as 'Rookie of the Year'

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro was second in the race at Valencia and confirmed his progression this season as the 'Rookie of the Year'. Navarro concludes seventh overall in the general classification at the end of the season and as the top Spanish rider in Moto3. Quartararo was forced to retire from the race and therefore not classified.

"The 'Rookie of the Year' title shows the consolidation of Jorge Navarro in the World Championship"

"The whole Estrella Galicia 0.0 team are excited by how JorgeNavarro arrived at his home Grand Prix in strong form. Navarro, along with his technical team, has made great progress this season and today his podium, for me, was like winning the race as he managed it brilliantly. The most important thing is that this year Navarro has grown as a rider and the 'Rookie of the Year' title shows what we have achieved.

We must congratulate all the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team for the great job they have done throughout the year. All this began in preseason, with lots of tests and a lot of preparation, so this is the best way to end the season, with these good results and seeing again that we are helping a young rider to fulfill his dreams.

For Fabio Quartararo, it was a shame not to have finished the race. Now we have to analyze what happened in the race because during practice and qualifying he was hardly affected. So now we will study the reasons that led him to not finish this last race of the World Championship."

"I was trying to push as hard as possible, but I had to retire"

"Today was a difficult race because I was trying to push as hard as possible, but could not keep the pace, so when I saw that there were still 14 laps to go and with each one I was losing more and more time, I had to retire."

"I decided to gamble on the last corner"

"I am very pleased not only with the race, but with the whole weekend. Riding at home is always an extra motivation, but also gives you a bit of extra pressure. I rode very comfortably in the group and in the end I tried to attack. I saw that Miguel Oliveira also wanted to be in front and I decided to gamble on the final corner. However, my bike was skidding a bit on the entrance to the corner and I had no real chance of overtaking, so I preferred to stay second, which is also a good result.

The idea was to get away at the front with Miguel [Oliveira], since we both had good pace, so we could fight for victory between us, but I saw that he was unable to pull away in first two laps, so I changed the approach. I decided to save a bit for the last three laps. I am happy with second place and can not wait to start working for next year."

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 face final round of the 2015 season

Valencia will be the final destination for the Moto3 World Championship; a last round of the 2015 season that the Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders arrive at very motivated. For Navarro, the Valencian Grand Prix is a true ‘home race’, and teammate Quartararo returns from injury for the season finale.

Jorge Navarro and Fabio Quartararo are prepared for the last Grand Prix of the season, which takes place this weekend at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo. The venue is a very special track for Team Estrella Galicia 0,0, as last year Álex Márquez was crowned Moto3 World Champion there for the team after a thrilling race –in which he finished on the podium.

Arriving at the end of this season, just nine days ago, Navarro was on the rostrum once again at the Malaysian GP, claiming third place at Sepang after challenging for the win. The Spaniard had been strong right from the opening Free Practice, and was able to run a good strategy in the race. He will attempt to get onto the top step of the podium this weekend, in order to delight his home crowd and end the season on a high note.

Across the garage, Fabio Quartararo will rejoin Navarro for this Grand Prix, after recovering from an injury to his right foot. The young Frenchman, currently tenth in the overall standings, has worked intensively to arrive at Valencia in the best condition possible for the season closer.

Another local rider, Aaron Canet [Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0], suffered a crash during last Friday's free practice session for the FIM CEV at the Jerez circuit, and will now not participate as planned as a wild card in the Valencian GP. Canet will instead focus on the final two Spanish Championship races, which take place just one week after the World Championship’s visit to Valencia at the same track. The young protégé of Emilio Alzamora was treated by Dr. Jimeno at the Hospital Universitario Quiron Dexeus, and will not undergo surgery –instead undertaking intensive physiotherapy.

Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo

Did you know...?

The Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo is named after a Valencian rider who was twice World Champion in 50cc-the first time in 1978 and the second time in 1981. Tormo was also the first Valencian rider to win a world title.

The circuit is located very near the town of Cheste. Due to the good weather that is usually found in this area of the peninsula, many teams in the World Championship choose it as a testing track in preseason.

The track design allows spectators to see the entire 4 kilometres of the circuit from different positions, encompassing 9 left corners and 5 right corners.

"We have worked very hard to get to Valencia in the best shape possible"

"I have recovered quite a lot from my injury, but I’m still I'm not one hundred percent fit. Taking part in practice and the race will be quite a challenge, but we have worked very hard to get in the best physical shape possible. Not participating in the Malaysian Grand Prix also allowed me to recover more quickly. In addition, we are going to a track that I like a lot, because I know I can be very fast there and it isn’t very technical. I will work very hard with my crew from the opening day, in order to do my best in the race and fight in the front group."

"The Valencian GP will be very special for me because it’s my'home race' "

"The weekend of the Valencian GP will be very special for me, because it is my home race in front of my fans and my family. In addition, we also had a very good last race in Malaysia and were fighting for the win until the end, but we know it's important to go to Valencia calm and not to put pressure on ourselves because of the circumstances. Both my crew and I will work as we have been doing all season, and if we can win at home to end the season, it would be perfect."

"Jorge Navarro has again fought at the front of the race and in the end took a podium finish"

"This weekend has been fantastic. Jorge Navarro has again fought at the front of the race and in the end took a podium finish. We are very happy with his performance here at Sepang, because this is a very difficult circuit in which in practice it is difficult to do a good job alone. However, Jorge has worked well and has set good times, preparing for the race very well, then was able to manage things on race day. I think Jorge has learned a lot here, but in the race it is hard to get your strategy working perfectly -particularly on the last sector of the track, where there is a long straight. In the end he was unable to win, but he was very close. This podium is very important for him, as it is for the entire Estrella Galicia 0,0 team because it get us very motivated for the final race ‘at home.’ ”

"I managed things well in every moment of the race"

"Today's race was chaotic and very difficult from beginning to the end, because there were many riders in the first group and it was hard to stay at the front. With the smallest mistake, you lost three or four places at once. I managed things well in every moment of the race. It was a shame that I was passed by Brad [Binder] and Miguel [Oliveira] at the last moment because I reached the end with the tyres in good enough condition to push hard; however, I am very happy with the race I had. I think the whole Estrella Galicia 0,0 team have worked well throughout the weekend, in which we have always taken steps forward and, like every Sunday, come out ready to fight for the victory. I am pleased with the progress we are experiencing and the flyaway rounds we have done. Now, we have to think about Valencia, my ‘home’ circuit, where I hope to have a great race in front of my fans."

Jorge Navarro strengthens progress in free practice for Malaysian GP

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider places fourth on first day of free practice at Sepang, the fastest Spanish rider in Moto3.

Heat and humidity played a big part in the first day of free practice for the Malaysian GP, in which Jorge Navarro got onboard his Honda NSF250RW to take on track where the asphalt temperature was over 46ºC in the afternoon session -29ºC in the morning session. Ambient temperature was 34°C with 50% humidity, and smoke from fires in Indonesia further aggravated the conditions.

However, these conditions did not prevent Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro from working intensively to keep improving in every aspect. In the morning session he led the way with 7 minutes remaining, eventually dropping down to second and 4 tenths off the top spot.

In the afternoon session, with higher temperatures on track, the tyres did not perform in the same way as in the morning; nevertheless, Navarro improved his times and finished thirdwith a time of 1:14.115. That put him fourth on the combined timesheet for the day.

The Spaniard, who is Team Estrella Galicia 0,0’s only rider at the Malaysian GP due to Fabio Quartararo’s withdrawal through injury, will be back out on track tomorrow from 3am CET for the third free practice. Qualifying for the penultimate race of the season takes place at 6:35am CET.

"We have adapted very quickly to the Sepang circuit, which is quite difficult"

"Today was a very positive day. We have adapted very quickly to the Sepang circuit, which is quite difficult. This was our first objective: to go fast from the start in order to gradually refine the setup of the bike. The pace this morning was very good; in the afternoon, with more heat and without the soft tyre, I noticed that I was lacking a little confidence -I guess like everyone else- because with the increasing track temperature the rear tyre was sliding a lot. I focused on finding my own pace, riding alone and trying to improve small details. I'm happy with this first day. I hope that tomorrow we can continue working like we did today."

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 move on to final round of flyaway tour

After brilliantly managing a chaotic race at Phillip Island, Jorge Navarro heads to Malaysia to compete in the penultimate round of the season. Fabio Quartararo will sit out the Grand Prix to recover from injury.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro and the rest of the team travel to Malaysia this week, to compete in the seventeenth round of the Moto3 World Championship.

The Spaniard took fourth place in a difficult race at Phillip Island last time out, adding a further 13 points to his tally and remaining eighth overall. After the good work by him and his crew throughout the weekend, Navarro had a good opportunity for a podium in Australia and even led the front group in the closing stages of the race.

Fabio Quartararo did not take the start at the Australian GP, retiring midway through the warmup session due to the pain caused by the injury to his right ankle. The Frenchman has travelled back to Spain, where he will work on his recovery for the season finale. The team will announce a replacement rider for Quartararo at the Malaysian GP in the coming days.

Sepang International Circuit

Did you know...?

At 5.5km in length, the Sepang International Circuit -designed by the famous German architect Hermann Tilke- is one of the longest tracks on the World Championship calendar. With 15 corners (5 left handers and 10 right handers) and a width of 22 metres, it is also one of the widest Grand Prix layouts. This feature, coupled with its fast, flowing corners and heavy braking after long straights, leads to spectacular races with frequent overtaking.

The location means that the riders will not only be battling amongst themselves, but also against the conditions. Hot and humid, Sepang is demanding for riders, tyres and engines alike.

"I prefer to ride in the heat, rather than in cold conditions"

"The Malaysian Grand Prix is the last race of the flyaways and I think we will be strong there, after two consecutive podiums at MotorLand Aragon and Motegi and a close fourth at Phillip Island. I hope to adapt quickly to the circuit and fight in the leading group again during the race. Due to the high humidity in Malaysia it is very important to be well hydrated at all times, and I have incorporated things into my training schedule in order to perform well in such conditions. I prefer to ride in the heat, rather than in cold conditions. The Sepang circuit has flowing corners and a couple of very heavy braking points; I think the Honda will have very good performance at this track. The target for the Malaysian GP will be to continue learning and improving."

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 head to Australia off the back of Japanese podium

After the great job done at Motegi, where Navarro gave Estrella Galicia 0,0 their second podium of the season with a third place finish, the riders and team travel to Phillip Island to contest the sixteenth round of the season. Fabio Quartararo expects to arrive in Australia further recovered.

The flyaway tour for the Moto3 World Championship reaches its next stop this week: The Australian circuit of Phillip Island. It is a track at which Estrella Galicia 0,0 placed second and third last season,  through Álex Márquez and Álex Rins, respectively..

This year, the team go Down Under after a third place in Japan for Jorge Navarro, who after a spectacular fightback in a wet Grand Prix, took won his second podium of the season.

The Spaniard is very motivated after the result at Motegi and the upward progression he is experiencing this season -the result of the synergy between his hard work and the team's experience.

Teammate Fabio Quartararo, who decided against participating in the Japanese race because of the injury to his right ankle, will use days prior to this round trying to recover and get into the best condition possible for Friday’s first practice -which takes place at 1am CET.

Circuit of Phillip Island

Did you know…?

The Phillip Island circuit is located on the island of the same name in Australia. The tricky and fast Australian track is 4.4km long, with 7 left corners and 5 righthanders; It has the same length as the Jerez circuit and is nearly 10 seconds faster. It is a circuit where the cold Siberian wind is a factor to consider, especially on Turn 3, called ‘Stoner Corner.’ The most spectacular and fast corner of the track is the opening turn, which the Moto3 riders take in fifth gear.

The Australian Grand Prix was first held in 1989. The following year it returned for a second event, but it was not until 1997 that the round was reincorporated into the calendar –where it has remained until the present day.

"The Phillip Island circuit seems spectacular. I hope to go there as recovered as possible "

"I think we can do quite well in Australia. We have a few days before starting, so during this time I will implement the instructions given to me for my recovery, raising my foot to keep the swelling down and walking a little every day. The Phillip Island circuit is very close to the sea, so I will take the opportunity to walk barefoot on the sand to get a little more strength in my ankle and calf, to try and prevent the shaking from my leg when on the bike. The circuit seems spectacular. I hope to go there as recovered as possible. It's a circuit that I think I'll like a lot, because of its fast corners; at first it will be a little tricky for my riding style, but it will be fun to gain experience there."

"In Australia I achieved my best result last year, and I think we go there in good shape"

"Phillip Island is a track I like. Last year, on the first few laps, I was impressed with the speed that you reach. It's a circuit that is so fast that you take corners in fifth or sixth gear. Last season I did well in Australia, with my best result this year, and now I think we go there in good shape. We’re on a run of two good races, in which I have been on the podium. Now we will continue working and, if we continue like we have been, I’m sure that next week we can be back fighting for the podium -and perhaps for the win."

Navarro takes second consecutive podium in Japanese GP

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Jorge Navarro took a podium finish at Motegi, with third place in a wet Japanese GP thanks to a fightback through the field. Teammate Fabio Quartararo elects against contesting the race as a precautionary measure.

"Navarro was due a good result in the wet"

"We are very pleased with the work that Jorge Navarro has done all weekend here at Motegi. In the dry he has been very fast and yesterday he took a place on the front row of the grid, but then he was relegated to sixth place due to a penalty. Even so, today he managed to overcome that adversity and followed the strategy set out for him: Improving as the race went on and avoiding mistakes. This was fundamental after the race in Silverstone, where after taking pole he crashed out on the first lap of a wet race. The race was in water and fell in the first round. He was due a good result in the wet and we can only congratulate him on the great work he has done with his crew. Jorge is bringing us a lot of joy and I’m sure he will continue this progression until the end of season.

As for Fabio Quartararo, after analysing the situation and seeing how the practice sessions went on Friday and Saturday, we could tell that he wasn’t at optimal fitness. That’s why we decided for him not to go out and race today, to prioritise the latter part of the season and make sure he can go to Phillip Island more recovered in a week’s time. In addition, the circuit in Australia has more left corners than right handers, so that it will also be easier than Motegi for him. The decision not to participate in this race was taken in conjunction with the rider. Fabio [Quartararo] completely agreed that today it was not necessary to take the risk without being sure that he would be able to finish the race.

The team decided to travel to Motegi for the purpose of allowing the rider, if he received clearance from the circuit doctors, to ride at a track that was new to him and accumulate kilometres and experience for next season. This is because, even though he will not continue at Team Estrella Galicia 0,0, our commitment is to provide our riders with the best training until the end of the season."

"We did not think it was the right decision to take unnecessary risks"

"We decided not to take the start today, because we did not think it was the right decision to take unnecessary risks. After seeing how I rode during practice on Friday and on Saturday, we believed it was not worth forcing things more with my ankle and elected to try to recover as soon as possible, in order to get to the next race in Australia in the best condition possible. My leg was shaking a lot because of the lack of strength and that made me lack confidence and not be able to ride well. Now I have a few days in which to get a little rest and go to Phillip Island in the best possible shape. The Australian track has fewer right corners than Motegi, and this could help us ride better."

"To finish on the podium after a difficult wet race is a great reward"

"Today I did not get a good start; I made a mistake and I got left behind. On the first few laps I was not very focused and some other riders overtook me, but gradually I found my pace and I managed to improve as the race went on. I got up to fourth place as a result. The truth is that I did not expect to go so fast, but with every lap I felt more comfortable and saw that I could reach the front group. To finish on the podium after a difficult wet race is a great reward for all the work we have done this weekend."

"This second place is a real reward for Navarro and for the team"

"The whole Estrella Galicia 0,0 team are very pleased with the results obtained at this Grand Prix. Jorge Navarro has had a great weekend, both in practice and preparing for the race as he demonstrated on track today. He had very good pace and fought all the way through to be on the podium."

"Throughout the weekend he has learned a lot and in the end, he was able to get his first World Championship podium. This is always an important moment for a rider and even more if it is at home. This second place is a real reward for Navarro and for the team who have been working hard all season to support these young talented riders."

"Meanwhile, Sena Yamada has also done a good job. He beat the lap time he had registered at this circuit in the FIM CEV by a significant margin and if it was a race of that series, he would have been fighting to win. When you come to the World Championship your level increases and this was the aim we had with Yamada. We knew that he is a rider who does not have World Championship experience, so the important thing was not the result, but to accumulate these valuable kilometers that will come in handy, as he looks to push in the final stages of the FIM CEV."

"I've finally got my first podium in the World Championship, so I'm thrilled!"

"Getting my first World Championship podium here at Motorland feels great. We knew we had a good pace but still, it was a difficult race. This weekend things were harder than I expected. This morning I crashed in the warm up, but luckily there have been no bad consequences. The Estrella Galicia 0,0 team did a great job preparing the bike again in perfect condition, and keeping me calm for the race."

"I knew that to finish on the podium or to fight for victory, I had to start the last lap in the top three, but then I was unable to place myself in a good position. When Danny Kent was behind, coming out of Turn 10, I saw he was not going fast and, on reaching the braking point I made my move and overtook him. It was a pity Miguel Oliveira was a bit far ahead because otherwise I could have taken a little slipstream and maybe would have had a chance to win the race. When I crossed the line, the first thing that came to mind were those not so good moments, but in the end, with hard work and team work, everything comes together. I've finally got my first podium in the World Championship, so I'm thrilled! Now, we will continue working in Japan. "

"I learned a lot throughout the weekend and I was able to improve my riding"

"I think I did a good race. The start was difficult because in the World Championship everyone fights a lot to get a good place right from the start, so I couldn’t keep my position and I fell a little behind. However, I didn’t give up and I started to push. Gradually I overtook some other riders and riding in the group, I was able to go pretty fast. I would have liked to fight with the leading group but I think the result is not too bad. Overall, I learned a lot throughout the weekend and I was able to improve my riding. The next weekend, we have the FIM CEV race in Navarra, so I hope to show all the experience I've picked and try to fight for the podium."
