The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is recognised as the sole motor sport governing body for the United Kingdom by the world governing body, the Federation Internationale de L'Automobile (FIA).
As the governing body, the MSA is responsible for the governance and administration of all major forms of motor sports in the UK, controlling the technical and sporting rules across the various disciplines.
The MSA implements these rules, known as the General Regulations, to govern the conduct of motor sports. These rules are made and amended by the Motor Sports Council, which is the 'parliament' of motor sports, while the MSA acts as the 'civil service'.
The British Grand Prix and the Rally of Great Britain are the flagship motor sports events in the UK however the MSA is also concerned with the 34,000 licence holders, 10,000 volunteers & officials and the 5,000 events taking place in the UK each year.

The MSA is an organisation made up of more than 700 motor clubs (with a combined membership in excess of 200,000) organised around 13 Regional Associations across the United Kingdom.
It represents international and national issues relating to the governance of motor sports and is involved on various FIA Specialist Commissions.
The MSA is represented on the FIA World Council, exerting influence where necessary in the interests of the UK, helping to shape the direction of motor sports on the world stage.
Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile
As the govening body of world motor sport the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) is the sole International authority entitled to make and enforce rules and regulations for the encouragement and control of automobile competitions through its International Sporting Code.
Involvement in motor sport: Organisers of the various FIA World Championships including the FIA Formula 1 World Championship and the FIA World Rally Championship.
Today over 700 motor clubs covering the length and breadth of the United Kingdom are recognised by MSA and join together to ensure consistency, fairness and safety in all motor sport wherever and whenever it takes place in the UK.
British Motor Sports Training Trust (BMSTT)
The Trust was formed as a charity in May 1977 with the aim of providing education and training to motor sports officials to improve their rescue, fire fighting, track safety and rescue techniques. The Trust also concerns itself with the advancement of medical science with particular emphasis on casualty treatment and rehabilitation of accident victims in motor car sport. Another important aspect of its work is to investigate methods of fire fighting and of reducing the incidence and gravity of accidents generally.
Since its inception the Trust has funded hundreds of safety seminars and training days for all types and grades of official including stewards, clerks of course, fire marshals and race and rally rescue crews. Support has also been provided for various courses held for doctors operating within motor sports, in particular the Advance Trauma Life Support conference which attracts a large attendance.
British motor sport is well served by dedicated, enthusiastic, hard working and highly trained volunteers without whom the sport in the UK as we know it would probably wither and perish. The work of the Trust in providing for their training needs helps them fulfil their potential and enjoyment of their chosen sport and simultaneously contributes to their professionalism which is acknowledged world-wide. Motorsport Safety Fund
The Motor Racing Safety Fund strives to meet its brief in three ways - by direct support, by encouragement and through communication.
Background to the Motorsport Safety Fund
After the death of Roger Williamson at Zandvoort in 1974, a fund was set up in his name with the primary aim of educating marshals on fire fighting and rescue techniques.
In 1987 it was reconstituted as the Motor Racing Safety Fund and became a registered charity with a wider scope to assist in financing the provision of equipment for specialised rescue units, improve emergency communications, undertake research and generally aid improvements in the standards of safety at motorsport events.
In 1999 the name was simplified to the Motorsport Safety Fund to reflect the fact that it tries to help all branches of the sport.
