WELCOME TO THE ENDURO SEASON. SANDOWN, HERE WE COME!
The 2014 Sandown 500 marks a pretty special anniversary for Craig Lowndes. Believe it or not, it’s exactly 20 years since ‘The Kid’ first raced a V8 Supercar, so we delved deep into his memory bank to find out his top three most unforgettable enduro moments – the good, the bad and the ugly.
- Bathurst 1996 – his maiden Bathurst win in his first full-time season in a V8 Supercar. It was the perfect end to a perfect season and conquering the holy grail of Australian motorsport is an indescribable feeling.
- Bathurst 2006 – when even the gods could not have planned a more fitting finish. With the death of Peter Brock just a fortnight before hanging heavy over the mountain that year, Lowndesy’s win was a fairytale ending to one of the most memorable Bathurst 1000s.
- Bathurst 2005 – the flying tyre. Triple Eight was delayed in conquering the mountain when our ’05 effort was rudely interrupted by a rogue tyre that came sailing out of nowhere to collide with the windscreen of the No.888 car, sending it into the pits and ending any hopes of an eduro double.
