Mackay Aeroflow update – driver changes and 10 cars on track at once!

The Mackay round of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars is heating up with new driver and car combinations now confirmed for the event as well as the 10-car ‘salute to the crowd’, which sees all of the nitro cars cackling together on the track in unison.

The event will also see the nitro debut of drag racing young gun, Jake Donnelly. The Supercharged Outlaws regular is keen to experience nitro for the very first time.

Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars management believe 19-year-old Donnelly will be Australia’s youngest ever nitro funny car pilot.

Donnelly will be piloting the Harbour City Hustler, the car now having been purchased by the Donnelly family to join the huge line-up of cars racing under the Donnelly family operation.

Jake will be joined at the event by brother Dan, better know as “Rocket man Dan” the driver of one of the series’ wheelstanding funny cars.

Father of the drag racing brothers, Jason Donnelly explained, “For us, drag racing is about family and having two of my boys racing at this event is a proud moment for our family.

“We know the new car is fast and consistent and I know that Jake will do a good job behind the wheel, so bring on Mackay!”

Series Manger Steve Bettes explained that the development of the funny car series has seen an influx of new competitors into the sport.

“What Graeme (Cowin) has created here is almost a kind of ‘Nitro University’. I don’t think any other area of the sport has the amount of enthusiastic, young drivers and crew like this one does. We are bringing the knowledge and experience of running high-level cars into a new generation of racers and crew.

“And at Mackay, you’ll see 10 of them all fired up on once. It really will be something to see, it’s smaller track, so you’ll really get up close and personal! We also have some more driver car announcements about to be confirmed as well,” smiled Bettes.

Palmyra Club President, Kylie London added, "We are excited that we are able to bring the ‘salute to the crowd’ to Mackay, it really is one of the things that race fans have enjoyed at other tracks!"

Nitro racing in Mackay will be at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm, with spectators advised to arrive at 3pm for the ‘salute to the crowd’.
