BODYBOARDERS EDGE CLOSER TO THE POINTY END OF COMPETITION AT THE 2016 AUSTRALIAN TITLES.

GALLOWS BEACH, COFFS HARBOUR (Saturday, August 13, 2016): Day two of the Australian Bodyboard Titles continued today as some of Australia’s most promising bodyboarders fought to avoid elimination and edge closer towards the final rounds.
 
Rory Nelson (Cape Burney, WA) scored the day’s highest single wave score in the first round of the Open Drop Knee division, posting an impressive 8.75 (out of a possible 10 points). The West Australian native took full advantage of the wedgey lefthand peaks to display his power and smooth transitions and as a result sealed himself a spot straight into the semi-finals.
 
Also claiming wins in the opening Open Drop Knee exchanges was NSW duo Zachary Armytage (Wombarra, NSW) and local Matt Sullivan (Coffs Harbour, NSW) who both put on impressive displays of textbook Drop Knee turns to cement a position into the semi-finals.
 
Buzz Van-Der Waal (Kingscliff, NSW) and Patrick Franklyn (Fremantle, WA) both engaged in one of the most exciting battles of the event so far, with both surfers posting excellent scores (eight points and above) in the opening Grommets (Under-14) first round exchange. Both Van-Der-Waal and Franklyn appeared to be men on a mission as they both notched up the previously mentioned scores and finished in first and second respectively. The two surfers will meet again in their second final.
 
Perennial event standout Adam Keegan (Marcoola, Qld) had another brilliant day in Coffs Harbour, smashing his way to tomorrow’s semi-finals. Keegan put on the sort of performance expected from a former professional bodyboarder, throwing down a combination of massive manoeuvres to claim the win in his opening Masters (Over-35) heat.
