Longboards Take Over The Point

Point Impossible, Geelong / Aust (17th May 2014) Round 1 of the Victorian Longboard Titles supported by Be The Influence was conducted at the point break of Point Impossible on Victoria’s West Coast today with round 2 to follow tomorrow. After re-scheduling round 1 due to poor surf conditions, Longboarders will have to back up round one with the 2nd and final round tomorrow to determine Victoria’s premier Longboarders for 2014.

With conditions on the smallish side, Surfing Victoria made the call late in the day to hold over the round 1 final for the open men and women’s divisions with conditions more favourable tomorrow. With the assistance of an early start and an extra hour of high tide, Surfing Victoria expects to crown champions in 12 longboard divisions by days end.

In today’s action Ben Considine picked up the first win of the day beating home Adam Lalor in the U/18 final.

The girls were up next with Morgan Griggs-Kennelly comfortably accounting for Isabelle Bond with the Firns sisters Abbie and Shannen filling the minor places.

Mel Renton-Wright posted a mid-8’s score early in her final to get a good head start on the field in the Women’s Over 35’s. Wright was able to increase her presence to street the final winning round 1 of the O/35’s. The over 50’s was taken out by Greg Brown who completely dominated the division placing all competitors in a combination situation early in the final. Tomorrow’s round 2 will start with the completion of the round 1 open finals followed by a full program of round 2 surfing to determine the 2014 Victorian champions. Action is expected to start at 7.15am at Point Impossible.
