NRC ROUND ONE PREVIEW

With an unprecedented twelve Wallabies released for NRC duty, Round 1 of the National Rugby Championship will no doubt deliver some exciting Rugby. The final teams for Round One have just been announced and can be found here.

This includes the newest addition, the Fiji Airways Drua who have made NRC history after being the first international team to join the competition. Over the next 11 weeks Fiji will play four matches on home soil and four in Australia.

 
Round One Fixtures: 

Saturday 2 September 
Canberra Vikings v Queensland Country
When: 3PM AEST
Where: Viking Park, Canberra

Information for broadcasters:
  • The first games of the National Rugby Championship season will kick off tomorrow at 3PM AEST when the Canberra Vikings take on QLD Country at Viking Park in the Nation’s Capital.
  • Qantas Wallaby Sam Carter, alongside Joe Powell will be looking to lead the Vikings to victory against Queensland Country at home.

 
Saturday 2 September 
Brisbane City v Fiji Airways Drua
When: 3PM AEST
Where: Ballymore, Brisbane
Broadcast: Fans can watch this game LIVE on FOX Sports Television at 3PM AEST
Information for broadcasters:
  • Fiji play their historic first NRC match against two-time Premiers Brisbane City at Ballymore at 3PM AEST.
  • Qantas Wallaby Quade Cooper will start for Brisbane City at flyhalf joining Moses Sorovi in the halves.
  • The Fiji Airways Drua team has a combination of experienced and young players who have previously represented the Flying Fijians, Fiji Warriors and FRU’s Provincial Competition.

 
Sunday 3 September
Greater Sydney Rams v NSW Country Eagles

Where: TG Millner, Sydney
Broadcast: Fans can watch this game LIVE on FOX Sports Television at 3PM AEST
Information for broadcasters:
  • Sunday arvo Rugby returns to TG Millner this weekend when the NSW Country Eagles take on the Greater Sydney Rams at home.
  • NSW Waratah, Jed Holloway has been named at number eight for the Rams, as he looks to re-capture his NRC form from two seasons ago that saw him storm his way into the Waratahs Squad.

Sunday 3 September
Perth Spirit vs Melbourne Rising
When: 3PM AWST (5pm AEST)
Where: McGillivray, Perth

Information for broadcasters:
  • The 2016 reigning Champions Perth Spirit will host Melbourne Rising with both team’s looking for a crucial round one win.  
  • The Perth side features 10 players who played in last season’s grand final victory including captain Michael Ruru and vice-captain Anaru Rangi.
