For the second time in eight days, one of the elder statesmen of the Goulburn Ovens Sedan

Association speedway division has won the feature event of the night when Ross ‘The Sheriff’

Maclean was able to defeat young guns Mitch ‘Sparky’ Watts & Tommy ‘The Boy’ Bowers.

Three heat races determined starting positions for the feature event and the first race of the night

was just the result needed for Maclean when defeated a greatly improved Anthony ‘Schnitzel’

Mitselburg who had his BA Falcon wound up ready to go with Bowers in third place & Scott ‘Big Red’

Callander, Wayne ‘Franky’ Williams (# 88 – Williams Race Tech – Commodore), Watts, Justin

“Cabbage’ Brockley, Charlie Ball, Clint ‘Dirty Harry’ Henderson, Brendan ‘The Bandit’ Tracey, Dave

‘The Maverick’ Walton (# 43 Maverick Boats – Centura), Warrick ‘The Outlaw’ Howie & Tony ‘The

Juice’ Duus where the other finishers across the line.

Showing how competitive the division is, Walton in his Chrysler was first to the line in the second

heat race. Walton was too strong for Callander (# 24 – Jindera Automotive) in his Falcon with

Maclean, Watts, Ball (# 87 Carter Plastering – Commodore), Howie, Mitselburg, Tracey, Henderson,

Duus & Brockley (# 15 Steeline – Commodore) the other finishers.

In a taste of what was to come for the feature Maclean out gunned “Sparky’ Watts (# 54 Ace Smash

Repairs – Commodore) in the final heat race with Charlie ‘The Game’ Ball having a strong run to

third. Henderson (# 21 Corowa Cabinets & Kitchens – Commodore) ran his best result of the evening

in fourth then came Walton, Duus, Callander, Howie, Bowers (# 82 – Cartwright Civil – Commodore)

& Brockley.

In front of what is a home crowd for almost every driver in the field, Maclean & Watts had the front

of the race covered as Watts tried more than once to find a way under Maclean at either end of the

race track whilst Maclean kept his line and left no gap open wide enough for Watts unless he was

prepared to go the long way around the outside of the Dunkley Panels & Towing Commodore

number 7 car.

The battle for third was on in earnest between Callander, Walton & Bowers though, & it would

eventually turn Bowers way as he got into third and cleared away from the others.

Maclean led all the way from start to finish to take the win from Watts, Bowers, Callendar, Walton,

Howie, Ball, Henderson & Brockley.

After the race Maclean spoke at the presentation ceremony. “I would like to thank my family for

their support & of course my wonderful sponsors. I congratulate all the drivers tonight for their

efforts. On a personal note, I really enjoyed the competition with Mitch tonight, I knew he was there

but buggered If I was going to let him beat me, even if he is my daughters partner!”
