Street Rodders Cruise In For Benefit

By Mark Humphrey

Geelong, Vic/Aus. 19th December 2014. Street machine enthusiasts from across the Geelong region descended on the Peninsula Hotel car park last weekend to honour little Angus Blackley. Sadly for parents Sam and Brodie Blackley, little 9 month old Angus passed away during the previous week after an accident in the family automotive workshop. Both members of the Old Skool Street Cars Geelong club the Blackley’s had been doing it tough recently and were forced to move into the automotive workshop after the premises they were renting was sold by the landlord.

Street car enthusiasts rolled into the Peninsula car park fundraiser one after another to show their support for the Blackleys.  A donation tent was set up with The Lions Club and Rotary also pitching in to support the family. Spectators constantly streamed in throughout the morning to admire the 100 plus street cars on display and to show their support for the fundraiser.

Perfect examples of automotive history littered the hotel car park with classics from back in the day the feature of the day. One fine example was a white GT Capri owned by Andre. Originally owned by Patricia Heath (Heaths Ford Geelong), the vehicle was the first V6 automatic Capri to hit Geelong and was trimmed with red interior making the car even more unique. Andre has owned and maintained the car for 31 years during which time the car has received an engine transplant. After blowing up the factory V6 Andre was talked into dropping a 302 V8 Windsor into the Capri. The car has been running the 302 V8 coupled to a C4 transmission for the past 25 years. Andre completed the conversion himself including a brake up-grade along with the re-mounting and fabrication of the radiator and support bracketing. Used as a Sunday runner, Andre gets out as often as he can to cruise the streets of Geelong and head down the coast.Andre's neat GT Capri.

Local businesses were also out in force to support the fundraiser. Shannon from Pro Finish Kustom Paint & Pinstriping rocked up in his mint HQ Monaro to add some bling to the day. Recently featured in Street Machine, the Monaro was a standout on the day. Shannon's mint Monaro

On the other end of the scale was the unmolested HG Holden sedan of Dave Smith from Bellarine Auto Classics. A dealer in HK-T-G parts, Dave’s version of an unmolested vehicle is certainly one of the most extreme going around.Dave Smith's H series Holden sporting an unmolested boot.

MEREDITH Show n ShineOne of the Old Skool classics

By Mark Humphrey

Meredith, Vic/Aus. 12th December 2014. Old Skool Street Cars held their annual Meredith show n shine last weekend in the Victorian country town of Meredith. Better known for the music festivals either side of summer, the normally quiet hamlet woke to the sounds of classic old street machines last weekend as they cruised in for the annual event. Unfortunately for organisers the weather gods weren't kind as a constant drizzle hung around for most of the day limiting the number of entries. With proceeds from the day going to charity the club had hoped for better weather to entice the public to come down and support the day. Even with the poor weather there was still plenty of quality machinery on show for the spectators who had braved the conditions.

Old Skool Street Cars Geelong run regular Cars N Coffee days in and around Geelong. The club is holding a benefit day this Saturday at the Peninsular Hotel in Moolap in support of one of their members who tragically lost a family member through the week. Plenty of classic muscle will be on display until noon. Gary Benson's neat Chevy 4 door Bel Air
