Spain have been dealt a huge blow with Manchester City star Rodri forced off with injury at half time with Matin Zubimendi replacing him.

Rodri has been a talisman for Spain and not having him in the second half could be a huge blow, and hand England a possible advantage.

The first half was cagey with not many opportunities and neither side took too many risks with Phil Foden going closest, whilst Spain dominated possession.

The options from the bench could make a big difference if the game is still level heading into the latter stages with England possessing a number of match winning options including Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins.

England are looking to end their 58-year wait for international success, and a win would also see them win their first tournament on foreign soil, whilst Spain are looking for a major trophy since 2012, but they will have to do it without Rodri.

Alan Shearer hails Manchester United star during Euro final

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864586

Alan Shearer has hailed the opening performance of Luke Shaw with the Manchester United defender making his first start of the tournament in an England jersey.

Gareth Southgate surprised many fans by dropping Kieran Trippier for Sunday’s final and replacing him with the returning Shaw at left back.

The Manchester United defender has been out since February, only playing twice since with both appearances coming from the bench, first against Switzerland and then against Netherlands in the final.

Although there were questions about his overall match sharpness, these were quickly cast aside inside the opening 20 minutes as he won the ball several times against Lamine Yamal.

Spain started the game off by dominating the ball with Nico Williams running Kyle Walker to the byline several times but the Three Lions clawed their way into the game.

Speaking on the BBC, Shearer hailed Shaw for winning ‘absolutely everything’ against arguably the player of the tournament so far.

“Luke Shaw has looked good at the start of this match. He has won absolutely everything.” He said via the BBC.

James McClean has made it clear who he is rooting for in the European Championship final after posting a picture in a Spanish jersey on Instagram.

The entire footballing world is gearing up for England’s clash with Spain in Berlin as the Three Lions search for their first major international trophy since the World Cup in 1966.

But they must overcome their biggest challenge yet in the tournament, a cohesive and razor-sharp Spanish side who have torn through both Germany and France en route to the final.

Although England will have an entire country behind them many around the world would also like to see a young vibrant Spanish side lift the trophy.

One of whom is former Republic of Ireland star McClean who took to Instagram to post a picture in a Spain jersey with the caption reading ‘All set… now we hope and pray,’.

Gareth Southgate has made just one change to his side from their semi-final win against Switzerland as Luke Shaw comes into the squad to replace Kieran Trippier who had been playing out of position.

England fans will hope that this is a good omen with the Manchester United defender scoring their opening goal against Italy three years ago.

Harry Maguire sends hopeful message to England squad

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864474

Harry Maguire has wished the England squad good luck in their European Championship final against Spain on Sunday night.

The Three Lions will face off against an in-form Spanish side in Berlin as they look to win their first major international tournament since their historic World Cup in 1966.

Despite their rollercoaster of a tournament so far, England fans will be confident that their side can finally go all the way but they will have to be at their absolute peak to best Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish side.

La Roja has already knocked out the likes of Germany and France, winning every single game of the competition so far and doing it in style.

Gareth Southgate will need his defence to be airtight to shut out the likes of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams with Marc Guehi already proving that he is up to that task.

The Crystal Palace defender got his start in the squad due to the absence of Maguire who just missed out after suffering a calf injury.

Although he couldn’t be there, the Manchester United defender wished the squad the best of luck on Sunday night.

England squad confirmed as Gareth Southgate makes one surprise change

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864396

Gareth Southgate has made just one change to his squad that will face off against Spain in the European Championship final in Berlin.

The English manager has surprised a lot of fans by making a change in defence for his side, with Luke Shaw replacing Kieran Trippier at left-back.

The Manchester United man is starting his first game since February when he picked up an injury while playing for his club with the 29-year-old only making his return to the pitch in the quarter-finals against Switzerland.

The left-back position has been a major issue with Southgate forced to play Trippier out of position which as a result has hindered the side’s attacking fluency on the left-hand side.

The rest of the team remains the same with Bukayo Saka retaining his spot as a right-wing back behind Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham.

Spain on the other hand will be boosted by the return of Dani Carval and Robin Le Normand who missed the semi-finals due to a suspension.

Lamine Yamal reveals how Spain can beat England

Lamine Yamal reveals how Spain can beat England

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864397

Spain’s superstar winger Lamine Yamal has revealed how his side can get the better of England on Sunday night.

In a titanic clash in Berlin, Spain faces off against the Three Lions as they search for their first win in the competition since 2012 to cap off an incredible tournament.

Although many fans have questioned the overall quality on display in Germany, La Roja are undoubtedly an exception to that as they have consistently dazzled opponents with their swift attacking play.

Although England has not been as impressive throughout the entirety of the competition, it will be anybody’s call who wins it on Sunday night given the abundance of talent on display.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca in the build-up to the clash, Spain’s Yamal revealed how his side can over the Three Lions.

“Playing the way we are doing, like against Germany or France.” He said.

“Being ourselves, having the ball and controlling the game at all times. I think we are the best at that and nobody can stop us if we do that.”

The Barcelona winger has been the breakout star of the competition and if he is on the winning side will more than likely be crowned as the player of the tournament.

With one goal and three assists to his name, the 17-year-old has added another dimension to Luis de la Fuente’s side along with Nico Williams on the opposite flank who has also established himself as one of the most frightening attacking threats in the world.

Manchester United receive injury boost ahead of new season

Manchester United receive injury boost ahead of new season

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864329

Manchester United have delivered an update on the fitness of defender Tyrell Malacia who is progressing in his training.

As the new season sneaks up on fans, attention will quickly turn from international football to club once the European Championship comes to a close on Sunday night with England facing off against Spain.

After a disappointing season, Erik ten Hag will be keen to see his side hit the ground running upon their return to the Premier League in August.

The Dutch manager will be even more ecstatic after the latest news regarding his first-ever Manchester United signing, Malacia has ‘progressed his fitness programme’.

“Young left-back Malacia returned to base earlier this week, after working hard throughout his summer break.” They wrote on the club website.

The Dutch defender underwent surgery at the start of last season which kept him out of the entirety of the campaign, a major blow for Manchester United given their struggles in the left-back position.

However, Ten Hag will feel no need to rush him back with Luke Shaw now seemingly fit to start the new season after featuring for Gareth Southgate in the European Championship.

‘Luke, please don’t…’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe sends message to Luke Shaw ahead of Euro final

‘Luke, please don’t…’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe sends message to Luke Shaw ahead of Euro final

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864330

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has sent a message to Luke Shaw ahead of England’s European Championship final against Spain.

With the heartbreaking loss against Italy three years ago still etched into the back of his mind, Gareth Southgate will be hoping for redemption against a vibrant Spanish side on Sunday night.

La Roja has been hands down the best team in the competition so far, as their direct style of play has continuously overwhelmed their opponents, knocking out favourites like France and Germany.

In order to get the better of Luis de la Fuente’s side, the Three Lions must be at the top of their game, especially on either flank with Spain’s main attacking threats, Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, operating out wide.

Luke Shaw will be a great match for the Barcelona youngster, as he has been named to start the game after only featuring from the bench up until this point.

The left-back missed the opening half of the tournament recovering from injury and Manchester United fans will be hoping that he will be fit and ready for pre-season training.

No one will be more glad to see him injury-free than Manchester United co-owner Ratcliffe who sent the England international a message ahead of Sunday’s final.

‘Luke, please don’t pull your hamstring again,’ He said in an interview with the BBC.

Gareth Southgate set to make surprise change in Euro final

Gareth Southgate set to make surprise change in Euro final

15/07/2024, England, Soccer, English Premier League Soccer, Article # 31864331

Gareth Southgate is set to start Luke Shaw for England in their European Championship final clash with Spain later tonight.

After their impressive semi-final victory against the Netherlands which saw Southgate’s side line-up with two wing-backs, many expected the England manager to name an unchanged side for the final.

However, according to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Southgate has opted to start Shaw in the left-back position rather than Kieran Trippier.

The Manchester United defender missed the opening half of the tournament as he was still recovering from a hamstring injury which he sustained back in February.

Shaw then made his first appearance in the competition against Switzerland in the quarter-final where he got almost a complete half of football under his belt before then playing 45 minutes against the Netherlands in the semi-final.

With such few competitive minutes under his belt over the past five months, it has come as a surprise to many that Southgate has decided to start him.

The 29-year-old will no doubt have his work cut out for him as he faces the unenviable task of shackling the dynamic Lamine Yamal who has been arguably the best player in the competition so far.

With a natural left-footer operating out wide it will hopefully allow Jude Bellingham to cut inside on his favoured right foot and solve one of England’s most obvious weaknesses.

England fans won’t forget the part Shaw played in the European Championship final against Italy in 2021 when the left-back stunned Wembley after he opened the scoring inside just two minutes.
