PROGRESS, FRUSTRATION FOR DENYSSEN
SA’s Eugene Denyssen takes a step forward before Silverstone rain gods intervene
RACE REPORT
Who: Eugene Denyssen
What: BRDC British Formula 3 Championship - Round 5
Where: Silverstone, England
When: 11-12 June 2016

Somerset West youngster Eugene Denyssen enjoyed an up-and-down British Formula 3 weekend at Silverstone with a hard-fought tenth in the first heat before the rain gods of Blighty intervened to once again turn the meeting on its head.

“It was a frustrating weekend because we had really good pace to run up front, but we never had the chance to properly take advantage of it,” Eugene explained. “I had issues during qualifying so I had to start last and we weren’t sure what the problem was, but we changed to new dampers and we were immediately back on pace for race one.

“I had a good start and a great opening lap before I chipped my way through to finish tenth, so I was delighted with that. “But race 2 was interrupted by rain and all us SWR drivers were caught out on the wrong setup, which left us at the back of the field so I was relieved to come in 14th.”

The rain and lightning was so heavy that Race 3 was abandoned, but Eugene is happy with recent progress he and his team have made: “We are looking strong on pace in both the dry and in the wet for the first time too, so there’s good reason to be positive,” Eugene concluded. “I still have a bit to learn in the wet, but one of my favourite tracks next, so all focus is on Spa in a month’s time.”
