MAG Australian Open Levels Tour to New Zealand

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

Congratulations to Daniel, Matthew & Kodee on your successful trip to New Zealand!!

Following Tasmania’s men’s gymnastics team’s success at the 2013 Australian Championships, three from the team were selected as
part of the Australian Open Levels Tour Team. Matthew Rose was
selected as part of the level 7 team,Daniel Bell as part of the level 8
team and Kodee Voss as the level 8 team coach. The Open Levels
Tour was to the New Zealand National Championships and went for 7 days. Tasmania was one
of three states represented on the team(NewSouth Wales and Queensland made up the
rest of the team). The New Zealand National Championships was held at Napier in Hawkes
Bay which is on the East Coast of the North Island. Three levels were represented on the
tour; level 7, 8 & 9.

The following formed the level 7 team: Jack Glendenning, Jack Rowell, Jesse Softley and
Matthew Rose, with Miles Cronin as the level 7 coach. Level 8 team: Hayden Greenbough,
Daniel Bell, Jae Nagal and Rhygan Werret, with Kodee as coach. Level 9 team: Jay Perry,
Dylan Konners, Josh Chambers and Hugh Gabour with Michael Donnet as coach.
The Head Coach for the trip was Martin Shields. For Matthew this was his first international
event. Matthew put forward clean routines across, floor, rings, vault and high bar.
Unfortunately making a mistake on both pommel and parallel bars. Matthew finished in 6th
place overall. Matthew was tied with one of his team mates for a spot in high bar finals but
after a tie break was not able to compete on high bar on the second day. Matthew did an
excellent job learning to compete at such a big event. The level 7 team finished in 2nd.
In the Trans-Tasman. This was Daniel’s second international event for the year after making
the Las Vegas Open Levels Tour Team for 2013/13. Daniel has a solid first day competing
great routines across all apparatus, which saw him finish in first place. This is a Great
achievement for Daniel! He was also the only Australian to qualify for all six apparatus.
Daniel backed up the first day of completion on the second, competing just as well,
unfortunately in the pommel final he had a fall. Daniel placed 2nd on floor and rings,
3rd on vault and 1st on parallel bars and high bar!

The level 8 team finished 1st in the Trans-Tasman as did the level 9 team. Well done to Matthew,
Daniel and Kodee on such a successful trip. Both Matt and Dan competed so well making
Australia and Tasmania very proud. Good luck to the boys in their preparation for the 2014
competition season
