Swimming Australia is excited to announce that in January 2018, Optus Swim Sydney Harbour will return to our shores, giving Aussies of all-ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in this once in a lifetime experience.

With the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge as back drops, you won’t want to miss out on your chance to take in the sights while you swim and soak up the atmosphere.

CEO and Founder of SME 360, Martin Jolly, today announced that, SME 360 has joined forces with Swimming Australia to re-launch the Optus Swim Sydney Harbour on January 20, 2018.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Governing body of the sport of swimming and to have Optus as our event-naming rights sponsor,” Jolly said.

“We encourage everyone to come along and to participate in this iconic event in the stunning venue of Sydney Harbour as we see this as the perfect lead into Australia Swims.”

Incorporating a range of distances suitable for all ages and abilities, plus a range of activities, food and entertainment, the Optus Swim Sydney Harbour is a great day out for families and friends.

Swimming legends past and present will also be part of the action, following in the footsteps of past ambassador, Olympian Daniel Kowalski who was joined by a host of VIPs including the likes of Geoff Huegill, Sally Fitzgibbon, Candice Warner (nee Falzon), Dave Warner, Michelle Bridges and Steve ‘Commando’ Willis.

This event has been made possible thanks to our Principle Partner Optus, who share our aspiration to see the sport and the pastime of swimming continue to grow.

Thanks to the ongoing support of Optus, next January will not only see Sydney Harbour come to life, but also pools and oceans across the country with Optus Swim Sydney Harbour is part of a bigger celebration, Australia Swims, that will see pools and oceans across the country come to life this summer.

Australia Swims is a nine-day festival of swimming created to encourage every Australian to reconnect with their love of swimming and Swimming Australia President John Bertrand AO encouraged everyone to get involved.

“Swimming is a unique sport with no age barriers, no gender barriers and no ability barriers – anyone can be a swimmer – it’s in our DNA.

This is about inspiring all Australians to be the swimmer they want to be, and as a nation surrounded by water, the 2017 Australia Swims celebration will give everybody the chance to get involved, share and celebrate our love for water activities. ” Bertrand said.

Founder & CEO of SME360, Martin Jolly, today announced the acquisition of the Audax Alpine Classic Cycling Event.

The Alpine Classic will celebrate its 32nd year in 2018. After starting from humble beginnings back in 1986,  the 2018 event will see over 2000 riders tackle 8 courses across the event weekend, catering for everything from moderate to the extremely challenging rides!

“We are delighted to have added this historic event, considered the most difficult single cycle event in Australia, to our growing list of major events. The route commences in Bright and travels through some of the most breathtaking countryside including Mount Hotham, Dinner Plain, Falls Creek and Mount Beauty. We will continue to work with Audax Australia & the relevant High-Country Tourism Bodies to ensure the continued success and growth of the event.”

Dan Shannon, Audax Australia’s Ride Director for the event, said “while we’re sad to let this event go, we are excited to pass the torch over to SME360 and their management team who are committed to continue the culture and long term future of the Alpine Classic.”

The event will see over 2000 riders converge on the Victorian Alps for a weekend full of cycling, food and entertainment. When riders cross the line, a sense of celebration of personal achievement with family and friends is strongly encouraged. Alpine Classic is not a race, the event is strongly focused around endurance and self-reliance, therefore to complete is to win. In addition to the incredible ride distances on offer, a free food and music festival is available for all those early-finishers and the start/finish line in Howitt Park.

With over 8 distances on offer, the original distance, Alpine Classic includes 200km of challenging hills and incredibly scenery, with a massive 3,600m of climbing! 2018 will see the third year of the changed course which received a great response upon introduction at the 2016 event.

SME360 is incredibly excited to be working with Audax on this world class event.
